Kasia founded MNM Diagnostics together with Pawel Zawadzki, Alicja Wozna and Patryk Urban in 2018. From the beginning, the company focused on bringing a better understanding of the origin of genetic diseases and finding new therapies to fight them. At the early stages of the company, she managed all company operations: technical development, laboratory and project management, marketing, sales, and talent acquisition. She played an important role in the design and implementation of business strategies, plans and procedures. She is currently responsible for the company’s international expansion strategy. Kasia is a biotechnology graduate from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and a long-time employee of the DNA Sequencing Laboratory at the university. She continued her scientific career at the University of Oxford, where she gained knowledge, experience and scientific independence. Her research was conducted at the Department of Biochemistry and aimed at understanding chromosome organization. Her scientific research has been published in many prestigious journals. Kasia loves good literature, cycling, hiking and meaningful discussions.
Maciej joined MNM in 2020. He coordinates the company’s artificial intelligence department. Maciej also holds the position of assistant professor at the Institute of Computing Science, at the Poznan University of Technology, where he received his MSc and PhD in computer science. His research focuses mainly on machine learning in complex data. Maciej also has several years of experience as a software developer of IT solutions in healthcare and served as an administrator of the IT platforms and databases of the Polish Registry of Congenital Malformations. Maciej is a family man who enjoys listening to music, playing the piano and guitar, reading, as well as playing tennis and squash.
Alicja Wozna is the Head of the Research and Development Team at MNM Bioscience. She has been part of MNM from the very beginning; she helps drive the application of AI and machine learning in understanding cancer biology through biomarker signatures, and the discovery and development of novel drug candidates. Alicja is one of the most accomplished young PhD graduates of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Prior to joining MNM, she gained experience in applying sequencing methods in cancer research during many internships in Polish and foreign institutions, such as the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon. During her master's program in biotechnology, she worked at the BioInfoBank Institute, where she began her adventure with oncological research. After work, Alicja enjoys good movies, especially thrillers, and sports, including running, skiing, squash and gym workouts.
Pawel joined MNM in 2019 and is currently leading a team that develops and maintains MNM's portfolio of genomic features - biomarkers that characterize tumors. Pawel has extensive experience in building large-scale bioinformatics pipelines and in sequencing data analysis. Before setting up the bioinformatics infrastructure at MNM, Pawel worked in academia studying rare disorders using targeted and whole-genome sequencing data (the University of Bergen, the Medical University of Lodz). He spent considerable time building clinical-grade infrastructure for processing whole-exome sequencing data at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen. Pawel holds an MSc in computer science from the University of Wroclaw (Poland), and a PhD in bioinformatics from the University of Bergen (Norway). He is a father of 4, a husband, snowboarder, and enthusiast of every outdoor activity.
Marcin started working at MNM in November 2021. He’s currently the leader of the data science team, which develops solutions and machine learning models related to drug target discovery. Marcin graduated in mathematics and computer science from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. In 2015, he earned a PhD in pharmacy at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences. During his scientific career, he worked on digital holography (Oulu Southern Institute, Ylivieska, Finland), crystallography of small organic substances (Poznan University of Medical Sciences), bioinformatics, modelling and validation of protein crystal structures (Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences). During an internship at the University of Virginia, USA, he developed machine learning models for ligand recognition in protein crystal structures. In 2012, he became a web application software developer in Python, and has been working in the field of cyber security (F-Secure) since 2016, first as a software engineer and later as a senior data scientist and line manager. He has been responsible for team management, big data analysis (Spark), and the development of machine learning models (scikit-learn) in the cloud environment (AWS). Marcin is the author of over 20 scientific publications. He is an enthusiast of agile methods, Scrum and Kanban. In his free time he likes to cycle, travel and take photos.
Weronika joined MNM in 2020. She is a genome analyst in the Research and Development team. She takes part in the development of novel drug candidates and the identification of new biomarker signatures for known cancer therapies, where she applies her knowledge of cancer biology and machine learning. In 2014, she graduated with an MSc in biotechnology from the University of Life Sciences in Poznan, and soon after began her PhD studies at the Faculty of Biology at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznan, at the High-Throughput Technology Laboratory. In 2020, she was awarded a PhD for her research on the application of circulating nucleic acids in the detection of renal cancer. She gained knowledge of cancer genetics during international courses in Toronto and Paris and while working with scientists from the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, which involved research on miRNA and cfDNA assessment in the detection of kidney cancer. In her spare time, she likes to read, paint and exercise doing yoga, cycling, or going to the gym.
Michal joined MNM in mid-2020. He focuses on analyzing genetic data to understand the underlying mechanisms of carcinogenesis and to find cancer's weak spots. He’s a biotechnologist by profession, with a PhD in medical sciences and is also a certified medical laboratory scientist, with over 13 years of experience in molecular diagnostics of mainly hematological neoplasms. Currently, Michal is in the process of becoming a specialist in laboratory medical genetics. He was involved in national and international projects for the standardization of molecular assays in leukemias. Michal has been affiliated with the Department of Hematology in Poznań since 2007, becoming assistant professor in 2017. He is a member of a number of scientific societies (European Hematology Association, Polish Society of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, Polish Society of Human Genetics). In his spare time Michal is a photographer, motorcyclist, and a homebrewer, but mostly a family man.
Bronia joined MNM in June 2022. She coordinates MNM’s laboratory work focused on drug target identification and characterization. Bronia has a PhD in medical sciences from the Institute of Human Genetics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan. She participated in numerous scientific projects and internships (University Medical Center for Children and Adolescents, Heidelberg, Germany; Ghent University, Belgium; University of New Mexico, USA). She has a publication track record on research of the molecular basis of head and neck cancers and leukemia. Before joining MNM, Bronia worked for a biopharma company on the development of gene therapy products. After hours, Bronia is a plant lover and an enthusiast of all sorts of outdoor activities.
Krzysztof joined MNM at the beginning of 2022. He is the leader of the Platform and Pipelines team and works on building the state-of-the-art multi-omics processing platform. He has over 15 years of experience in IT, especially in batch data processing, cloud computing and big data technologies. Krzysztof has worked in the pharma industry for many years and learned how to use modern infrastructure and scaling frameworks to increase the efficiency of medical data utilization. Krzysztof is a rock climber and likes to travel for outdoor climbing.
Maciej started working at MNM in 2019. As Director of Scientific Development, he is responsible for the supervision of scientific projects and grants. He also coordinates the BioBank and cooperation with clinical and academic institutions. In 2018, Maciej obtained a PhD in medical sciences from the Institute of Human Genetics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan. During his scientific career, he was a leader of several research grants, published many articles in international peer-reviewed journals, and completed internships in prestigious academic facilities, such as the University Hospital in Southampton, UK and the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Italy. Since 2017, Maciej is a member of the Polish Human Genetics Association, which recognized his achievements with the Golden Helix Award. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Etiuda Scholarship from the National Science Center. After hours, Maciej spends his time practicing martial arts, long-distance running, and hiking in the mountains.
Dariusz has been working at MNM since early 2021. He helps with designing AI models, building model monitoring tools, and coordinating scientific research. Dariusz is also an associate professor at the Institute of Computing Science, at the Poznan University of Technology, where he received his PhD. He also spent some time at the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia. His research interests include machine learning, data stream mining, and structural biology. He also dabbled in projects involving product demand prediction, congenital anomaly databases, e-book library analyses, and machine learning in co-op survival computer games. On his days off, Dariusz likes to play the guitar and shoot some hoops.
Roman has been working for MNM since the end of 2020, but he officially joined the team in early 2022. He is responsible for the evaluation of data processing tools and the development of new analysis workflows. Roman is a bioinformatician interested in the development of novel methods for the analysis of high throughput molecular data, as well as in studies on intracellular processes related to the development and progression of cancer. He is a co-author of over 35 Journal Citation Reports articles in the field of molecular biology and bioinformatics, created in collaboration with the most prominent national and international cancer research laboratories. Roman also holds the position of assistant professor at the Silesian University of Technology in the Department of Systems Biology and Engineering. After hours, Roman is a DIY enthusiast, using various techniques related primarily to woodworking and electronics.
Pawel moved to MNM from a pharmaceutical company in June 2022 to help build reproducible computational pipelines and the tools necessary to run them in a cloud environment. A biomedical engineer by education, he transitioned to the role of bioinformatics engineer, having spent over 10 years in academia and industry. Pawel has contributed to a number of research projects in bioinformatics and biostatistics, and is co-author of several open-source scientific software packages. Pawel is an avid cyclist. On rainy days, he likes to tinker with his collection of vintage computers.
Daniel started working at MNM in 2021. He graduated with a degree in engineering from the Warsaw University of Technology. At MNM, he’s responsible for building artificial intelligence models and implementing tools for the machine learning pipeline. Daniel has many years of experience in R&D projects, mainly in the field of machine learning (cross-sell prediction, action recognition based on accelerometer data), deep learning (image recognition, object detection and segmentation, optical character recognition) and image processing (image deblurring, heart rate estimation). He is also the author of several publications in this field. In his free time, he travels and sings in a choir.
Maciej has been working at MNM since mid-2021. He is responsible for creating AI models, tools and analyses. Maciej graduated in engineering and computer science from the Poznan University of Technology. Currently, he is completing his master's studies in artificial intelligence. Maciej is interested in music production - he plays guitar and synthesizers. He also practices Japanese fencing - kendo.
Michal joined MNM in mid-2021. He is responsible for creating AI models, tools and analyses. Michal graduated in engineering and computer science from the Poznan University of Technology. Currently, he is completing his master's degree in artificial intelligence. In his free time, Michal enjoys baking, drawing and doing yoga.
Dawid started his journey at MNM at the beginning of 2019. His main responsibility is to develop and maintain local and cloud infrastructure. Dawid gained experience during his studies by working on numerous projects, including at the Medical University of Lodz. He gained expertise in DevOps during an internship at TomTom. Dawid obtained his master's degree in computer science at the Lodz University of Technology. In his free time, Dawid enjoys spending time outdoors, especially slacklining. Other than that, he loves a good book or a good movie.
Michal has been working at MNM since the beginning of 2021. He is currently leading the company’s financial, legal and corporate development affairs. Michal has over a decade of experience, mostly in the field of investment banking and investment management. Initially, he gained experience in the UK at the JP Morgan Chase Investment Bank and the Royal Bank of Scotland. After returning to Poland, he worked in an asset management firm as well as at an insurance company, where he was an investment director. Michal is a graduate of Edinburgh Napier University. He is a keen traveller and athlete. In his free time, he enjoys various sports, especially football, squash, and yoga.
Paulina has worked at MNM since March 2019. She coordinates all the administrative activities and is responsible for personnel and financial matters. Paulina is a graduate of international relations at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. She gained professional experience in administration, HR, accounting, as well as implementation and financial reporting in projects co-financed from EU funds while working at the AMU NanoBioMedical Center and in international corporations. Paulina is passionate about travel, non-fiction books and yoga.
Jarek joined MNM at the beginning of 2022. He is responsible for supporting the company in all issues related to business and commercial partnerships. He is focused on both healthcare and business. Initially, he gained experience as a project coordinator at the Greater Poland Cancer Centre. Afterwards, as business development manager, he was involved in creating the business development department and the marketing strategy for one of the biggest CDMOs in Central Europe. Jaroslaw graduated from the Poznan University of Economics and Business, and then completed postgraduate studies in healthcare management. He’s now studying towards a postgraduate degree in pharmaceutical marketing at the Medical University in Poznan. After hours, he loves various sports (shooting sports, tennis, volleyball, karate, handball).
Agata joined MNM in February 2022. Initially, her role was to audit and optimise HR processes. She currently focuses on the development of the MNM team and its growth. She is a graduate of Adam Mickiewicz University and holds two Master’s degrees - in Occupational and Organisational Psychology and English Philology. Agata has experience in the corporate environment and since 2019 has worked as an independent consultant and coach. Agata spends her spare time on walks or with her nose buried in books mainly about psychiatry, psychotherapy and management.
Piotr Topolski joined MNM in 2020. As Data Protection Officer, his responsibility is the protection of data and GDPR compliance. Piotr is the administrator of the computer network and acts as a support for the employees. He is a graduate of the University of Lodz, where he completed postgraduate studies in data protection. He was administrator of USOS (University Study-Oriented System), (Oracle) at the University of Lodz between 2005-2008, then worked as head of the IT Team at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz for the next eight years. Piotr continued to work at the university as data protection officer, before becoming a freelancer specializing in information security, in 2018. He is the author of popular science articles on information security and a propagator of VDI solutions in the public sector. In his spare time, Piotr is an avid motorcyclist and sailor.
Anna joined MNM in October 2022. She works as a Genome Analyst and is part of the Research and Development team. She graduated with an M.Sc. in Biology from the Technical University Dresden in 2018, soon after started a PhD program under MSCA Horizont 2022 co-fund project at Clinical Research Centre, Medical University of Bialystok. She studied the transcriptome of high grade serous ovarian cancer, especially focusing on transcriptome regulation by miRNAs, lncRNAs and Transcriptional Factors, working both in wet and dry lab. Her special interest were Ovarian Cancer Stem Cells, which she studied using bulk and single-cell transcriptomics. Anna is also a member of the team, that submitted a patent application for miRNA-based diagnostic test. She was awarded PhD title in 2022. During her education, she collected experience in various fields, including plant biotechnology, bioinformatics, molecular biology. This was made possible through numerous internships including research stay and finalizing master thesis at University of Jan Evangelista in Usti and Labem (CZ) or research exchange during PhD studies at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Oklahoma City (USA). Besides strict biological education, Anna also finalized postgraduate study in Data Science and took part in EIT Health “From Scientist to Innovators for Industry” course, where she worked in a team to provide innovative solution to case provided by Roche Denmark. In her free time, she loves to spend time outdoor hiking, cycling, camping or training slackline or yoga. She is also keen on exploring new places, especially trying out local cuisine. She hides some creative site, which shows up by furniture upcycling and experiments with digital painting.
Karolina joined MNM in 2019. She is responsible for coordinating the work of the molecular laboratory. Karolina has participated in numerous research projects aimed at developing and implementing tests in the field of diagnostics of genetic diseases. She gained experience during internships at research institutes and pharmaceutical companies. She is a biotechnology graduate from the University of Life Sciences in Poznan, where she specialized in genetic diagnostics. Afterwards, Karolina completed postgraduate studies at the Medical University in Poznan, obtaining a laboratory diagnostician license. She is currently training to become a specialist in laboratory medical genetics. Karolina loves winter sports and travelling.
Filip joined the MNM team in early 2022. He’s responsible for the maintenance of the Quality Management System; the handling of company documentation and non-conformities, conducting internal audits. Filip is a graduate of environmental science from the Poznan University of Life Sciences. His passion still lies with the environment, but he’s been professionally involved in quality management for nearly 12 years, mainly associated with the automotive, electrical and electronic industries. Since 2016, Filip has been working at the Poznan University of Technology, where he teaches students Quality and Environmental Management in manufacturing companies. He is the author of many journal articles on quality and its impact on the energy efficiency of companies and the natural environment. Filip is a lover of good food, long journeys and loud music.
Filip joined MNM in 2019. He is responsible for the operation of the molecular laboratory. During his studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Filip gained experience through student exchanges abroad at the Universidade da Coruña and Universidad de Córdoba, where he also took part in research projects. Currently, he is studying at the Clinical Trials and Biomedical Research Postgraduate Program at the Medical University in Poznan. In his free time, he enjoys backpacking, cycling and is interested in Spanish traditions and culture.
Professor David Sherratt is Iveagh Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford. In 1969 he completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh, in the then newly formed Department of Molecular Biology. From Edinburgh David went on to become a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California for two years, working on the newly characterized plasmid ColE1, in Don Helinski’s lab. David returned to the UK in 1971 to become a lecturer at the University of Sussex. In 1980, he became Chair of Genetics at Glasgow University, then moved to Oxford in 1994 to take up a post as Iveagh Chair of Microbiology. It was at this time David also served as president of the Genetics Society. David considers himself a molecular detective who uses interdisciplinary approaches to understand how the bacterial chromosome is organized, replicated, repaired, unlinked and segregated within a living cell. He studies how these processes are interwoven with cell physiology in steady-state growth and under ‘perturbed’ conditions.
Marcin Nowotny graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Warsaw and obtained his PhD from the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology at the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Wei Yang at the National Institutes of Health. Since 2008 he has been a group leader at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB). He is a recipient of an ERC Starter/Consolidator Grant, HHMI International Early Career Scientist Award and the Wellcome Trust International Senior Fellowship (twice), as well as NCN MAESTRO and FNP TEAM grants.
Wojciech joined MNM at the beginning of 2022. He is a quality engineer, working on preparing tools and procedures to increase the quality of the product and to speed up process development. He has over 8 years of experience in IT, especially in batch data processing, cloud computing and frontend tools for UI testing. He has worked in the Fandom, F-secure, BAE and Nordcloud industries, where he learned how to use modern tools and frameworks to increase the quality of the product. Wojciech is known as Bula and, in his free time, rides on longboards and listens to music.
Szymon Szyszkowski joined MNM at the end of 2021. His main responsibility is to develop new tools and frameworks for building new genomic features. Szymon is a self-taught developer with a background in biotechnology. He started his career at the Children's Memorial Health Institute, where he gained experience in genomics. He obtained his engineering degree in the field of bioinformatics at the Lodz University of Technology and later completed his postgraduate studies in OMICS data science. Szymon is a big fan of tech, computers and programming. Other than that he loves cooking and running.
Mateusz joined MNM in April 2022. After the Pipelines team was merged with the Platforms team, he became responsible for maintaining and developing bioinformatics pipelines, as well as developing infrastructure. He graduated with a BSc in Biotechnology from the University of Wroclaw; currently he is completing a master's degree in bioinformatics at the University of Life and Environmental Sciences in Wroclaw. Mateusz is a family person, enjoying every moment with his friends or family. He is also keen on playing board games and wandering in the mountains.
Antonina joined MNM in 2022. As part of the Research & Development Team, her duties are mainly in the area of data acquisition and data processing. Last year, Antonina graduated from the Poznan University of Medical Sciences with a degree in medical biotechnology. She is now a young scientist, willing to work in the field to change our world for the better. Antonina is fascinated with the analysis of human genomes, applying AI algorithms to biomedical sciences, as well as with the drug discovery process. She loves to spend time outdoors, camping and trekking through the mountains. She is also a scout leader engaged in training teams.
Albert joined MNM in April 2022. He works as a DevOps Engineer and his main responsibility is to develop and maintain our processing platform. His strong points are AWS and Python, but he also feels comfortable coding in Ruby, BASH and JS. After hours, Albert enjoys spending time spinning poi, juggling and hiking. During bad weather, he likes playing the drums and creating computer graphics.
Hubert joined MNM in May 2022. He is a DevOps Engineer and works on the constant improvement of MNM's cloud infrastructure in AWS, as well as the integration with current on-premises infrastructure. His main responsibility is to develop the computing platform on AWS. He started to work as a C# Developer around a year ago, but his main coding language is Python, which he started to learn at elementary school, making his first projects for himself and for friends. Hubert enjoys spending time with friends, as well as good movies and games.
